What to Wear
When getting an authentic Thai massage inside Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), it’s best to wear loose-fitting clothing. If needed, the temple can lend you fisherman’s pants upon request.
Massage Setting
Massages typically take place in a communal, open-plan pavilion, offering a traditional and social atmosphere. Thai body massage can be quite strong, but afterward, you’ll generally feel revived and refreshed.
Adjusting Pressure
If you find the pressure too firm, you can politely ask your masseuse to go softer. Saying “Bell bell, please” (with a smile) is a simple and friendly way to communicate this in Thai culture.
Foot Massage
Alternatively, a foot massage can be equally rewarding—especially after all the walking and sightseeing you’ll do around Thailand.
